It was original and the varied types of Necromorphs were distinctive and incredibly expressive. The character design was among the most unique in a game released in that era. Let’s hope they can show us how the Frostbite Engine can come closer! Again, Dead Space 2 can be seen as a good reference because it was obvious the levels already looked a lot more “sculpted”. Going through the pages, it becomes apparent how the concept art shows finer curves and organic sleekness of the intended design and at some locations, Dead Space 1 was lacking this finesse. There is a book called “ The Art Of Dead Space“. Let’s hope that in the stream they can show us how modern technology can add more layers, moving parts and depth and make it resemble the concept art more than the original did. The ship layout, texture palette and geometry was really unique and had this weird of mix between an organic haunting house but with a rusty steampunk style. On the lighting side, I’m looking forward to seeing how today’s technology can use dynamic shadows and more pronounced ambient occlusion and directional light as a feature to make the Remade Ishimura look extra creepy and have dramatic lighting play out in iconic scenes such as more convincing power outage scenes with more going on than simply the light going out, but now we’re already moving in the realm of gameplay! This time (at 10 AM PST / 19:00 CET to be precise), Dead Space Art Director Mike Yazijian and his team will cover various topics such as the atmospheric lighting, the Gothic-Meets-Lovecraftian environments, the unique characters, special effects of the original game that they will use as a reference to make the remake.
